You say Prince Norodom Sihanouk refers to his country as
Cambodia if he is speaking in English, Cambodge in French and
Kampuchea in Khmer (WORLD, June 19). There is nothing strange in
that. How do Poles refer to the U.S.? Stany Zjednoczone, of course.
Italians say Stati Uniti, and if Poles mention Italy, it is Wlochy.
Finns don't know they live in Finland; they think they're in Suomi.
And Hungarians are positive that Budapest is in Magyarorszag. The
problem lies with Americans who don't know what foreign languages
are all about.
